But that's my point exactly: More freedom means less security, which is not necessarily better. Then you run into the problem of tolerating intolerance, for example, which makes things objectively worse for everyone. Laws around this sort of thing have to be extremely nuanced.

The reason I trust centrists like Carney on this kind of thing is because they're not inclined to move the slider to either extreme of the freedom/security spectrum.

Yeah, but this is why governing is hard. A conversation that I wish we'd have more often - and that should have been front and centre during Covid - is the tradeoff between freedom and security that is at the heart of the concept of governance.

Rosie is obviously just trying to placate the "Defund the CBC" crowd, but they won't be placated regardless, so she really doesn't need to keep up the tough act. Perhaps she'll look inside herself and see that.
