I'm cool with that, too. But if three ghosts could just go ahead and visit him some night and get him to use his vast wealth to do some actual good, that'd be great.

I was just gonna ask how Firefox is doing, these days. I haven't used it since I retired my last Linux setup five or six years ago.

An Elon redemption arc was not on my bingo card, but I will absolutely take it if he wants to go there.

The 2024 election shone an ugly light on a lot of things, but one of the biggest was just how catastrophically mis/disinformed so many people are. They either didn't know they were voting for this or genuinely believed they were voting for the opposite. We tried to warn them...

Come on, microorganisms; now's your chance to do something hilarious...

Please see my other comment wondering about what reality you inhabit. If god is watching anyone, it's Trump and his followers who should be the most worried.

...what colour is the sky in your world? Because you're clearly not part of this reality.

Donald Trump is living proof that there's no such thing as karma. I feel JUST FINE about wishing for his death after all of the horrible things he has said and done and faced absolutely no consequences.

Can it be tomorrow, please...?

All of which is to say that I think Carney is a policymaker who understands and respects the importance of nuance and won't yeet us down any slippery slopes.
May 5, 2025 at 2:26 AM
But that's my point exactly: More freedom means less security, which is not necessarily better. Then you run into the problem of tolerating intolerance, for example, which makes things objectively worse for everyone. Laws around this sort of thing have to be extremely nuanced.
May 5, 2025 at 2:25 AM
The reason I trust centrists like Carney on this kind of thing is because they're not inclined to move the slider to either extreme of the freedom/security spectrum.
May 4, 2025 at 1:22 PM
Yeah, but this is why governing is hard. A conversation that I wish we'd have more often - and that should have been front and centre during Covid - is the tradeoff between freedom and security that is at the heart of the concept of governance.

Where'd you find those bad boys?

Now that both of those performances are so far in the past, I find it wild that they were less than a decade apart.

Stephen Miller saying dead-pan (and dead-eyed) on live TV that the SCOTUS decision was unanimous IN THEIR FAVOUR has to be a new low. It's not spin, it's straight-up mirror universe shit.

I think "Safety Dance" was the first music video that really grabbed me. I would have been six when it was released. Still one of my favourites!

Happy bday, Bootsy! Can I call you Bootsy? I hope so, cause I just did, twice. Keep up the fantastically excellent work; we need what you're providing.

I mean, he's not wrong. He's proven that his influence is harmful, so it has become our goal to destroy it. Instead of crying about it, he could maybe just try not sucking.

Rosie is obviously just trying to placate the "Defund the CBC" crowd, but they won't be placated regardless, so she really doesn't need to keep up the tough act. Perhaps she'll look inside herself and see that.
