I was asked by Child Care Now Alberta to sign a pledge promising to work toward affordable child care in Edmonton. I have signed the pledge and returned it to them. Child care is a crucial support for parents.

I think that rent is skyrocketing and it's extremely unaffordable for the majority of renters. Most people cannot afford to pay what's required right now. The place that I live currently, when I started renting it three years ago it was $900. I am going to be moving out and the landlord is going to be charging the next person $1,500. So he wants to raise the rent $600 in three years. I think that is crazy. That's almost double in three years. So yeah, rent caps are really important. I also believe increasing the housing supply as much as possible is going to reduce prices. That is one reason that I have a degree of belief in infill. I think that we need as much housing supply from anywhere we can get it as possible, because when there is increased supply that means that usually the prices will go down." I got an email in my inbox about somebody who reached out to Michael Janz and he never replied to them. And they wanted to let me, Mark, and Joshua know about that. So that's something that I am pursuing is responding to every email and I hope I can continue to do that if I become councillor. I think that constant communication is really important as well. I want to participate in holding town halls as a councillor regularly in different neighbourhoods to ensure that everybody gets an opportunity to let me know what they are concerned about. Yeah, those are my proposals." The first and more important is adopting a housing first approach. So that means anybody who needs a house, gets a house right away. No questions asked. We don't say "What substances are you on?". We don't say "Are you mentally ill?". We don't say, "Do you have a job?". We say "Here's a house. Go ahead. Start your life" And we give options for treatment. That's not mandatory. We say "Here's access to counselling. Here's access to addictions treatment." And they get the choice of whether they want to do it or not, and they keep the house regardless. That's been tried in Finland and it's been really effective. Some of the other proposals that I have are to open a new supervised consumption site in Edmonton. That would bring us up from one to two. As well as repealing the public spaces by-law, which I think has intentionally criminalized homeless people more than it already has been. And the last proposal that I have is starting paid focus groups with homeless people. So homeless people can walk away with say $100 and they would be consulting with the city of Edmonton to express their opinions."
