Software Engineer since punched cards. If I wanted a carnival barker for #POTUS, I would have voted for one. #LGM 2026
Oh? And you aren't playing politics? 100% fed up with the donkeys and elephants. Go take a long walk off a short pier.

I did that hike 50 years ago. I'll never forget it.

Even if that actually came about, 50% of the US would not care about India's plight nor consider that Climate Change is factual. Unless it happens in the US, nothing will change the minds of the Trumpistas. Pardon my pessimism.

Usually, the best computer upgrade (if the system board allows it) is a RAM upgrade - especially for older computers. If you are seeing a lot stalls or app spinning, this might be the right medicine. Just make sure that the replacement or additional RAM stick is compatible with the system board.

My software infrastructure? 100% Linux distributions (E.g. Xubuntu) and LibreOffice (write, calc, impress, math, draw).
All donationware. Cannot see going back to Windows or MacOS.

Modern computer hardware can be safely disassembled for maintenance and upgrades. Always check the system board specs first before purchasing replacement or additional hardware. YouTube has a lot of DIY videos; you can search buy your computer model identifier (exact match).

My partners and I use shared github repos for integrating so it doesn't matter what we each use locally. GA scripts are used to drive our unit tests and integration level testing.

Golang and Python.

A lot of scientists like Anaconda or Miniconda. But, that does not have a clean solution for integrating a home grown or 3rd party package living at pypi or on github.

Python programmers that I am in touch with wind up using `venv` in some form, either directly or with poetry, uv, or pipenv.

Unfortunately, in 2024/5, the situation with package managers still allows too many choices as illustrated in this article: dublog.net/blog/so-many...

I just noticed that the cartoon did not give proper credit. I found it here: xkcd.com/1987/

But think exaggerated humour.

Even the keyboard is a relic, nice! I bet this oldie once sported a 3270 emulator.

Happy end of year!

Yes, George. However, it would help if CNN commentry explained that their remarks are hypothetical. The world reads too fast and takes everything way too seriously in the 21st century. Back to my current syfy novel, a world that makes more sense to me.

This system at 40 ly should be a future research target, albeit a multigenerational excursion.

Worth visiting: www.trappist.one

The name of the system chosen by the original research team is one of the best beers in Belgium.

3rd party RAM costs less and is just as good. Upgrade. E.g. Corsair, Kingston, PNC.
