When it came out that the attacker was an Elon Musk fan, AfD supporter, and anti-Islam, Vance defended AfD.

Actually he doesn't. Try actually listening to his show and you'll see. Waters refuses to reply to Smerconish's attempts to contact him, because of a Youtube video that Smerconish made that disagreed with Waters.

You don't actually listen to Smerconish do you? He had brief friendship with Waters and even then, he pointed out the flaws in Waters' theories. Now they are on the outs because Smerconish criticized him once too often.
