I think maybe one of my greatest achievements as an in-house counsel is having the business team respond “It depends” to a question from the CEO. My work here has not been in vain 🤣

Day 3 of Orange County NC recount of the NC Supreme Court Assoc Justice Race. Just a few adjustments from prior reported results - usually a mark read by the machine as an overvote for which human eyes are able to ascertain the intent of the voter and mark the candidate accordingly.

Tabulator jam on Election Day resulted in 2 ballots being scanned twice. Precinct judge noted the error in her report & the CBOE noted the error at canvass. Recount corrected the error since ballots were tabulated correctly. Result: 2 votes down for one candidate from their prior-reported total.

Recount count of paper ballots can vary from the tabulator result. Example: a voter fully marked one candidate & made a partial mark on the other. The machine recorded an overvote, but the Board was able to ascertain the intent of the voter and record the vote for the fully marked race.

I chair my county’s bipartisan Board of elections, and we’re currently supervising our portion of the recount of NC’s Supreme Court race. It’s a slow, tedious, transparent and important process. Democracy in action!

In Maya Freelon's forthcoming "Whippersnappers" exhibition at Historic Stagville, an otherwise cheap item—$1.99 at drug stores, held together with Elmer’s glue—resourcefully transforms a site of violence into a prism that refracts hidden histories outward.

Another Twitter/X refugee here. So far I'm loving the blue skies and comparative absence of toxicity. Can I say hi to your dog? Where are the NC people?
