Wasn't sure if I wanted to share this but back then I wanted so bad to feel normal that I watched a lot of true crime to feel validated in my horror and pain, so if anyone else suffers from #cptsd or #ptsd I hope you know that your own journey is valid and that healing is messy...

As I reread my own words of what happened, a part of me felt sad at the last page. because this is past me thinking things will get better... and don’t get me wrong, it sure did. but also there’s a lot of suffering i had to go through from and because of the healing process also the things I didn’t talk about that was actually really hard for me during that time- thoughts and physical limitations that still affects me to this day, that i struggle with. I couldn’t grab flat objects because my both hands’ middle fingers were no longer flexible from tendon damage they‘ll stay stiffly in a crooked pose like this permanently. I remember the doctor telling me I’ll only get 70-80% of my mobility back and I was okay with that "fact". But emotionally; it wasn’t okay that this was the best outcome. Water would slip between my fingers if i tried to wash my face, I broke bowls and dishes because my grip was bad and weak. I used to have full on emotional shutdowns when I got a paper cut on my hands or cut my finger while trying to prepare food. feeling helpless chipped at me from every corner of life. I’d wake up silently crying because another day meant another day of helplessness and pain in moving my hands. sometimes, and I still do- in my weariness I tell myself “I wish they were amputated instead.” The legal system giving a reduced sentencing of 6 years for attempted murder of two people- I've asked myself: was I not victim enough? did i need to cry and shout that this person harmed me because loud voices are heard better in court battles? but I was disassociating. it took me 3 years to cry, I didn’t know my pain, how could I act? it haunts me that this person taught me empathy 20 years ago, got me into art that I am still grateful for, but they’ve outed me in court, tried to frame me that i did all this. I'm not going to write an ending for myself this time because there isn’t one. I remember asking my therapist: “what if i hesitate helping someone in the future because of what has happened to me?” a part of me is genuinely scared of getting hurt again. also because it felt like doing my best to save us,didn’t result in the best outcome for myself to have to live with. but I'm happy that no one died that night, and that my sister and me gets to live on. it’s messy because I don’t even like admitting that this is trauma or that I’m mentally ill, somewhat impaired... I feel like I don’t deserve those titles. I hide my hands quite a bit or pose them in a way where people will not notice that something is off. but that’s not really because of me feeling embarrassed or ashamed... (sometimes yes) but rather they are a reminder to me of all the painful moments I endured and how it’s impossible for me, to look at my hands in a neural light. (there’s a whole background story to my family, where there’s two unjustly dead women already involved in the history before all this. but so far, this is my imperfect, on going healing journey.)

September 15, 2019, 3:00 AM 1. I woke up to a strange noise outside my room. 2. When I went to check what was happening, my younger sister was collapsed on the floor. 3. As I tried to open the door, I heard my older sister's voice on the other side, and the door was blocked. "Oh, wait a minute." I waited, relieved, thinking my younger sister had had a nightmare and my older sister had already helped. 4. But the moment I left the room, my older sister began stabbing me with a knife. 5. I blocked the blade with my hand as it slashed my throat, shouting, "What's wrong? What's wrong?!" I shouted. 6 I backed away, snatching the knife from her as I returned to the room where I was staying. 7 After pushing me down onto the bed, my older sister began to vent her frustrations. 8 To avoid agitating her, I counseled and used therapy speech, giving her only the answers she wanted to hear. 9 While I listened to him, bleeding, my younger sister cried out for help, saying, "Sister, it hurts..." 10 I pondered how I could escape this situation and help my younger sister. I couldn't move and my lil sister must have been scared. I tried to console my sister, without making the perpetrator angry, I said, "Okay, hang on. sorry, I'll be there soon." To her asking for help, the perpetrator shouted, "We're talking!" 11 This process repeated itself several times, and I tried to convince the perpetrator that both I and my younger sister were badly injured and that it was time to go to the hospital. The perpetrator insisted we wait until morning and that today's medical technology was so advanced that he could fix everything even if we went late. 12 From the perpetrator's attitude, I intuitively felt she was trying to bleed us out. Then, the perpetrator suggested that we(my sister and I) are scaring her and that she would feel more secure if I returned the knife I had taken, and then she would send us to the hospital. 13 Seeing this as an opportunity, I said, "Okay, yes." and returned the knife. 14 Then, the perpetrator began stabbing me again with the knife I had returned. 15 As I pushed her away and tried to run away, she grabbed my hair and began stabbing me in the back and side. 16 As I left the room, I heard my sister yelling, "Run away, sis!" to me. I wanted to cry. I felt like she would die if I left her like this. But I thought it was better to get help than to bleed us both to death. I dragged my heavy body to my father's room and locked the door. I woke him up and told him to call the police and an ambulance. 17 After the call was made, all the pain I hadn't felt before crashed in. 18 When the police and paramedics arrived, we were immediately taken to the hospital. 19 That's the summary of that day. After that, both my lil sis and I underwent multiple surgeries. There was a lot to go through, from police and prosecutorial investigations to court testimony. 20 But even today, the scars on my body, the nightmares I have, and this sense of familial responsibility I feel continues to torment me. 21 The perpetrator is my half-sister. I have to feel guilty about things that happened to my family before we were even born, and I have to live with the countless false promises I made to survive that situation. 22 On a less serious note, I believe one of the ___ fanbooks I sold overseas was returned. The perpetrator opened it while I was away, stabbed me with a knife, and while complaining, I was forced to listen to comments like "I'm dirty for drawing adult content." That's how I developed a trauma from my hobby of ___ fandom. 23 When we were hospitalized after the surgery, our father came to us, saying he couldn't just take our side, and repeatedly mentioned the perpetrator and inflicted secondary harm. 24 Even though they were all the same children, he couldn't even pretend to comfort the actual victim... I wondered what family even meant. 25 I was able to overcome all these difficulties thanks to my then-girlfriend, now my non-binary wife. They flew from Germany to Korea as soon as it heard what had happened, and they were my two hands for six months. 26 I left Korea as soon as the prosecutor told me I could leave. I almost lost three fingers, but fortunately, only the tendons were severed, and the joints at the ends are bent and stiff, which is the best recovery to be expected. 27 I only keep in contact with my younger sis now. She has since escaped the emotional abuse from my family, lives independently, and received regular counseling at a crime victim center. (finished) 28 I'm also receiving PTSD counseling and taking antidepressants in Germany, and am slowly recovering from my guilt and trauma. Still, the fact that we two lived together makes me the happiest. (also finished) 29 My wife and I got married in Germany on December 19, 2019, wearing hanbok. After what happened to me, I wanted to have legal proof that we were family in case anything happened to us. We couldn't go on our honeymoon because of COVID-19, but once it's over, we plan to invite friends and acquaintances and have a proper wedding party and honeymoon.
