There is this limit after which techno stuff is just "cool", but it's useless as a matter of improvement and only complicates things more (I'd argue most people would be better off without a smartphone too!)

like flying cars are terrible in any meaningful metric, where we should be moving away from

There is this thing about transcendence of work, and I think it's being lost, looking at work as anything more than a means to make money, which is very crappy

you know, I really do think e.o.d. firings and layoffs wreck social morale in an incomparable manner, and you've to be very very careful while accepting people in the first place.

afaiui from my friends at google, the company morale is dead in the water

@microsoft.com Heyo!, I'm looking into one of your papers on bitnet distillation huggingface.co/papers/2510....

and the authors claim the code is present at github.com/microsoft/Bi..., but the code isn't there yet!, Any chance you can help me out here :)

@mozilla.org is in a very difficult place right now, and Jake is correct, that the overarching fight-from within the community itself, is very toxic

It's wild, mozilla has historically lost customers due to their defence of security, and the reality of the situation with product development is that
An absolutely wild and gutting part of this role is having so many people desperate for you to fail. I know I know tiny violin etc etc. Anyway, new video out later today!

all the AI efforts are inevitably going to make the housing crisis worse because of companies easily being able to find houses to flip

there is a heavy amount of hypocrisy going on with the usage of AI tools and people claiming its useless - or attacking it, with the very same teams also actively using them.

it's kinda emotionally hard to deal with

flashcards are amazing, and the reason they are amazing is because they pipeline learning into this memorizable format

Before you ask it: Will this be configurable?

Yes. It will. Right now this is the early test version that is being used to prove the idea. Eventually this will be pluggable with your own bullshit generator using WebAssembly and CGI.

This early test version generates LinkedIn-core bullshit:

one of my problems with @deutschebahn.com is that my deutschlandsemester ticket cannot be used in "card form" and this leads me to being forced to carry my phone everywhere (even though I'd prefer to leave my phone at home)

@webdevs.firefox.com one of the features I would really like implemented would be support for > 256mb files in wasm

ggml.ai/whisper.cpp/ - I really prefer on-device AI and edge AI when I can, over sending people's data to a server, this would make really good possible :)

@jakearchibald.com minor suggestion (nitpik on your amazingly lovely blog post jakearchibald.com/2025/fetch-s...)

you can use xcancel links xcancel.com/jaffathecake... instead of x links to avoid direction attention there :)

But it also does suck that reported download timings are incorrect
Fetch streams are great, but not for measuring upload/download progress
They're inaccurate, and there are better ways.

Few things in life have stressed me more than immigration, especially when my spouse and I had different statuses. What's happening in the US right now with the USCIS changes is going to inflict immense, and very avoidable, pain on a lot of people :(

One of the biggest problems we have is the over prevalence of pessimism in society because of media incentives to push for negative narratives

this also allows for people like trump to grow, because he realises the more evil he does, the more coverage he gets

If you want to kill yourself in 996 culture, be my friend but “I worked 36 hours straight, fell asleep a few times in the car but FSD drove me home” is absolutely insane. It pains me how many people praise this behavior though.

I really think what @mitsuhiko.at is going through is realising how the internet is just pessimism as a service - because pessimism sells lol
