I’ve been reading After Jesus Before Christianity by Erin Vearncombe, Brandon Scott, and Hal Taussig, and those early students of Jesus understood what they were doing very differently than later Christians, and even from one another. But they pretty much all hated the Roman Empire.

Hands Off rally/march in PDX had a huge turnout today, with a strong feeling of camaraderie and support for one another. We were walking the middle of the pack, and people were still spilling out of the plaza onto the street when we turned onto Morrison Bridge.

Currently reading On Tyranny: Twenty Lessons from the Twentieth Century, Graphic Edition, written by Timothy Snyder and illustrated by Nora Krug. It reads like an illustrated manuscript, which I guess it literally is, and Krug’s art helps make the text more meditative, something to linger over.
