& the blue boy has long had an association with male femininity & gayness (and he’s blue). pinkie looks like a responsible girl, blue boy looks like a brat. and they look like 2 children dressed up extravagantly to look older than they are. (screenshots from wikipedia)

they are paintings largely defined by their association with each other even though they really have nothing in common. pinkie plays second fiddle to the blue boy in the public consciousness even though (to me) she’s the superior painting
