By using both spoken and signed language, they now have an option. Noisy restaurant? Sign. Working on English homework at home with mom? Talk. Out with a hearing friend who is still learning sign? Mostly talk. Out with Deaf friends? Sign. Hearing aid batteries died? Sign. Options!

Learning sign language also doesn’t mean a Deaf child can’t use spoken language too. If you DON’T teach them sign language, how will they be a part of the Deaf world? Where they could have access to thousands of people with similar life experiences?

Or they justify not learning sign language because “how will you order at a restaurant?” — they obviously haven’t ever been with Deaf people at a restaurant before 🤣 You point to what you want or type it out on your phone. Really not hard!
