Almost every single one of them that I know personally exudes the kind of toxic male behaviors (aggressive towards women, angry/resentment at female achievement) that scares me, including family members. I'm not disagreeing abt the value in local bookstores. But I when I walk in and see the prices, most of the time I end up walking out with nothing. Tough choice. I'm solo, every dollar matters to me. I bought Hillary Clinton's new book on Amazon for $20.41, the closest indie had it for $30.

I love the sentiment as a small business myself. But local independent bookstores are often more expensive - significantly, and I don't have the extra cash. Now, if those bookstores used my services....
