AFAIK the og account never belonged to him, he was just a really big fan of it. I don’t know how that misconception started but if you look trough his tweets you’ll see there is not a single one where he said he was the owner, plus the account stopped posting almost a year before he died.

I believe most of the time it’s because companies need to follow some specific regulations that countries impose on them, and depending of what that is that can make it kind of risky to release content without checking with their legal team first, or something like that idk.

We have a “similar” issue here in Brazil where the government forced Steam to start using our ERSB rating equivalent to sell games. But they only enforced it to games released after 2019, and so far the only game I’ve found that was region locked for not having one was Little Town Hero of all things
