Back from a backpacking trip. The weather was fall-like. Cool with rain, but that's OK. No bugs, no crowds, crisp air - dreamy!

We did one more shorter hike in a pine forest on the way home. It was almost spiritual with cool mist and deafening quiet.

A rare pause during the zoomies to capture this photo of a Marten.

It was -31°C overnight. With the sun up for a few hours, it made it up to about -11°C, so we were all very happy to have some warmth and sunlight.

A Pine Marten, paused briefly to take a breath after running very fast all over the place. Its fur is an interesting mix of orange, black, and brown. Its face is much lighter with a lot of white, and almost yellow. Its eyes, nose, and points on its ears are dark - looks like black. If you look closely, you can see its cute but murdery teefs poking out.

We snugged up our coat zippers and mitts against the biting wind. The ominous light and eery feeling making it clear we were not meat to be there.

The tree endured the harsh wind, as it always has. Bent, but not broken.

A lake, absolutely glass-like in it's serene stillness. The early sunset is orange in the sky, and reflecting off the water. The tree line of the shore far across the lake is reflected, making it hard to tell what is the shore, and what is the reflection.

The last of the tomatoes. Not a bad harvest!

We prepare them by quickly boiling them until the tomato skin splits. We then press them to extract the juice and pulp. We strain, separating the skin and seeds.

We then simmer it to reduce it to a sauce thickness, then jar it

Golden hues of sunset light up the pine-lined shore, casting a warm glow over the lake still like glass. What I like about photography is that it trains me to open my eyes to the beauty around me everyday. These are bean blossoms, from our garden.
