Makes me think of James White's "Sector General" stories: dared to focus on understanding different species and trying to help, rather than - you know - blowing them up

What a wonderful film. I was a bit obsessed with the stills from it in my beloved Pictorial History of Horror Movies, but in those pre internet (pre VHS even ) days never got to see it. Prepared myself to be disappointed when I finally did. Totally wrong about that.

Post a fictional comedian who definitely would accept an invitation to the Riyadh Comedy Festival

Not a funny response, and one you increasingly see cited on SM, but Marcus Aurelius nailed it.

What could be more exciting than buying a new Adrian Tchaikovsky @aptshadow.bsky.social book? Having to climb a ladder at Topping & Co's Edinburgh bookshop to get it!

Random, unsolicited reading recommendation:
I've just finished The Glass Maker by @tracychevalier.bsky.social . Frankly, all her books are great, yet this beautiful saga of art & craft, of Venetian history and its impact on people &relationships is a particular joy. Going to miss these characters..

Coffee or tea? Sun or shade?
A simple choice, but is it actually a choice at all? What if that apparent freedom of decision making is just an illusion?
Listen to @thinkpsychol.bsky.social and my discussion of just that. & also whether football is any good...

Saw these amazing 14th Century ceramics in the Museum of Nicosia. Any of them could have won Potter of the Week on 'Throwdown' , and had Keith Brymer Jones in tears!

Working away, I find myself staying in a more luxurious hotel than I'm used to. I get the "wide range of choices at the breakfast buffet" attraction, but I've never seen THIS before. Is it common?
