And there's also the element that they regard Canada as an -ideological- threat. They can't tolerate Canada hanging out, so similar to America yet getting along quite successfully along different political and philosophical lines of development. Can't have Canada inspiring American liberals.

The fact that Canada, for all its problems and its challenges, continues to be a peaceable, prosperous, stable, successful country, is something that should not happen in the fascist imagination. Therefore, Canada must be destroyed.

There's this strong undertone that they feel that Canada MUST fail, because Canada as it existd disagrees so deeply and so fundamentally with their ideological presuppositions about how countries ought to be. They think Canada OUGHT NOT to work.

It's like they believe Renee Good was some kind of Antifa kamikaze suicide attacker. Like, what, she was going to run over the ICE agent around a pack of other armed ICE agents... And then what? Immediately be shot? She would just throw her life away? It makes no goddamn sense.

The only thing to do I think is to insist that ICE as an organization must be disbanded as a tool of tyranny and terror. It's legitimate functions, if any, can and should be distributed to other law enforcement agencies.

It may be tactically better to say "Disband ICE" instead of "abolish" to avoid being easily tarred with association with the very unpopular "abolish the police" thing. But hostile right wingers will try to play this trick no matter what you say or do.

It's a rhetorical trick that hostile right wingers use to defend the Gestapo. They conflate "abolish this particular horrendous institution" with "abolish the broad concept of law enforcement generally". They do this because they want to paint their opponents as deranged ideologues.

Well look at Trump. The man is 79 and time comes for us all. For all the chestbeating and bravado, the US is an aging population and the Trump voters trend older as well. This means less factory workers, and more care aides are needed.

That was when the total moral rottenness of American high society hit me, personally. I didn't have a high opinion of them before, and this just confirmed to me that the American elite are, fundamentally, frivolous people without moral or intellectual seriousness. Worse than useless.

The truth is scary, but simple. They're fascists who believe that white American men are the master race and the rest of the Western hemisphere exists to be their slaves. It's that simple, that terrifying, and that bad. But to admit it demands some scary stuff from us, so people don't want to.

In a democracy, people like us and our values will naturally have a significant influence on the direction and policies of the state and the polity. That influence can be exercised well or poorly, but you cannot terminate it without terminating democracy generally.

Liberal urban cosmopolitan educated people are a significant portion of the electorate of most of the Western democratic countries. We have a lot of votes, a lot of wealth, and a lot of necessary technical expertise and skillsets. We are economically and socially vital.
