There's lots of way to lower this. Usually people claim a standard deduction which makes the first ~15000 tax free but that's very dependent on your aunts filings and her own income. The way this is setup is pretty complicated.

The IRS usually doesn't care for foreign asset amounts under $10,000 USD btw. Also just so you know taxes aren't due in the US until April 15th and most people don't file them before February just FYI.

For amounts under 11600 the amount of tax owed is 10% of the amount earned www.irs.gov/filing/feder... for ~$3,000 this would be ~$300. There could also be state and FICA taxes in addition. Maybe best to work out an agreement for how much you can pay with her.
