Week 2 in the US — a trip to NYC! Presented our #EyeTracking research on discrimination at #SJDM2024. Now swapping skyscrapers for gorges as I head back to Cornell. Loving this mix of ideas and places 🥰

I've shared my work on including Open Science in teaching social psychology on here a lot, from experiments to repliCATS in the classroom. I'm proud this landed me on the longlist for this year's Enter-Award. But more importantly: the students were so on board they gave me a teaching award 🥰🥹

Yup, there's a bit of a dip in the ratings for Feeling the Future.

Ran #repliCATS in the classroom this semester, assessing 5 social psych papers with 28 raters: Discussions improved understanding (panel A) compared to initial ratings after individual reading, but made students feel a bit more pessimistic (panels B-H) about the papers. #OpenScience #HigherED

🧵🪡 Demo Experiment on Aggression Priming and Hot Sauce Paradigm: I drank 10 drops of hot sauce 🌶️🥵😅 in this week's lecture, because we tested whether primes related to violence would cue more aggression in terms of hot sauce allocated to me. Spoiler alert: it's another null effect 💁🏻‍♀️

🧵🪡Misinformation presents a central challenges of our time. Inoculation Theory proposes that practicing counterarguments can help ward off undesired social influence. In last week's classroom experiment, we attempted to replicate McGuire & Papageorgis's (1961) classic inoculation study. [1]

🧵🧵Cognitive Dissonance replication in the classroom (N=94) as a demonstration experiment – null effect 🧵🧵
Students completed a super boring task (clicking boxes in correspondence with row numbers). Afterwards, they could leave a message about the experiment for next year's students. Positive (1)

Another demo experiment from my introduction to social psychology lecture series this week: conceptually replicating Mazar et al. (2008)'s test of self-concept maintenance theory – null result. Participants could cheat on a performance task to increase their payoffs. Before, they were either ...

Taking bets on what the demo experiment in this week’s social psychology lecture is going to be 😉
