I think this is near impossible because even with the most unbiased and professional reporting possible, humans are inherently opinionated and will have thoughts on issues and topics that may shine through, even inadvertently. #UW201 #301

Yes, Liz, I do. I wonder if there is an inherent bias to preying on people's receptiveness to celebretiess or other likable parties?

Humans have a negativity bias and are often drawn to extremes- found in much of the world's violent and traumatic news. To combat this, we would have to overproduce positive news, allowing it to balance out the abundance of negativity. #UWJ201 #301

Until media is funded and treated like a public good, I do not believe there will ever be an outlet that deviates from this trend. Our hyper-capitalist nation offers very little room for most industries to escape consumerism. #UWJ201 #301

There are lots of instances of prominent agenda-setting, but I would argue that any kind of ulterior motives or agendas that are disguised in media- are a breach of the unspoken rules and expectations for good dutiful journalists.#UWJ201 #301

I think we see more alarms in journalism because of our negativity bias. The average person is more drawn to extreme or relevant news because these difficult topics tend to stick out in our minds more, and become intensified. #UWJ201 #301

This means that in some capacity news is shifting towards a more global or national level. Local stories still matter, but the attention of the public is captured by bigger corporate outlets and therefore subjected to the information they distribute- at the cost of losing local papers. #UWJ201 #301

There needs to be clearer constraints on who can own and agenda set through news. Journalism is more reliable and truthful when produced like a public good; for the people by the people. #UWJ201 #301

It really is interesting to consider how the digital world we've crafted has transformed politics and the idea of unbiased "truth." There is now such a stage for misinformation and lying with minimal consequences that feeds into a increasingly tense climate and gaping partisan divide. #UWJ201 #301

I think this question remains to be answered. It is certainly harmful to have misinformation circulating, and no method to counteract it. However, in either the hands of third-party fact checkers or individuals in the community- there is room for varying degrees of biases and error. #UWJ201 #301
