It just doesn't work for some people. I'm slender and around 99th percentile by height. It's a miracle when something at a thrift store fits. Ironically, $2000 designer clothes often fit me perfectly, but I can't build a wardrobe like that.

How did you improve so fast? It took me a year to do anything but tumble down black runs. My partner rollerblades and she picked it up much faster. Do you do another sport that trains some of the same muscle memory?

Don't be silent when people in your life say hateful things, even if that's the easy path. Confront them. Tell them to stop picking on people with less social power than them. Tell them their "jokes" aren't funny. Don't date them and make excuses for their behavior.

Mysteries are based on limited information. As a GM, you can only limit information by telling your players "no" a lot, which doesn't make for a fun game.

This is how I got my start, and I owe a lot to the sysadmin who mentored me. I just don't know if this pipeline exists anymore. I'm a staff SWE at a FAANG-lite and getting offers isn't difficult. But I don't have a CS degree. I don't think they'd even interview a new engineer without a CS degree.

For a brief period, tech provided an unprecedented level of class mobility in the US. There isn't really an equivalent anymore. But if I was a young person now and I had the resources, I'd probably try to enter the medical field.

It's very difficult to mentor people into the industry because it's not the same industry it was when I started. My advice doesn't work anymore and if I was starting over in $current_year, I'd pick a different industry.

Moving out of Texas is one of the best decisions I ever made. My health and happiness skyrocketed after I left.

I've been aggressively catcalled by large groups of them multiple times. My friend who lives downtown has been chased by them at night. I'm afraid to walk on the west side alone at night now.

Traveling is traumatic. How are you supposed to plan an outfit hours or even days ahead of time?? I have to pack my entire closet just in case.

I was desperate so I ordered estradiol from some pharmacy in Turkey or something. When I told her, she said she didn't want to be my primary care physician anymore. No regrets 😌

As long as you can hide it a little, you can still get away with transphobia in healthcare. A PA tried to gatekeep me and said I'd have to take spiro for 6 months before she'd let me take estrogen. It was a reality check that even the OHSU transgender health clinic isn't necessarily on our side.

You mean the interstate between Portland and Seattle that's exactly like every other interstate highway in the country? I drove it yesterday. It's not "some of the worst roads in the country", by a very big margin.
