The kayfabe explanation for this is essentially exposure therapy; It had happened to Mox so many times that he had a way to counter it, and even if he hadn't, the DRiders were around to save him.
With the Death Lock, he had just had his knee hit with a bat repeatedly, and all the DRiders were out.

mox saw bd wouldn't stop, couldn't stop, until someone put him down so hard he had no choice. mox is the same, but he's tied too deeply to the history of AEW to let go. he's so, so tired but he can't allow himself to give up until somebody forces him.

I'm not sure if that was a time issue or something they did purposely to try to get a few more last-minute buys from people who watch the free tailgate brawl but don't necessarily purchase the PPV!!
