Eight years ago today I was in Iceland. I was revisiting the tiny northern fishing village where I spent a month on a writing residency in 2014, which inspired my debut novel, ‘Fed to Red Birds’ (Simon & Schuster, 2023). Look at these blues! Is it any wonder I always want to go back?

Little bit in love with the Literary Witches deck I got for the solstice. You pull writer cards (Shirley Jackson, Anaïs Nin, Jamaica Kincaid) and symbol cards (braid, cauldron, wolf) and see what they inspire. A lovely wide range of languages, genres and eras.

Moved house last week from the clang and clamour of urban Footscray, to the crow calls and starry skies of rural Ballan. If there are finer things than arranging your bookshelves in a new home, I’d like to hear them.

Which of my passions to search for first here?!

Icelandic, taxidermy, feminist punk, Durer/Bruegel/Bosch, Carmen Maria Machado, Riot Grrrl, Brussels, tarot, archery, Shirley Jackson, Hekate, urban gothic and let's not forget, cats being jerks.

If any of that is in your wheelhouse, let me know.
