📣New paper📣
We measured #VOC & #CO2 fluxes from 3 ponds in a peatland forest using floating chambers. Understanding of freshwater ecosystems as VOC sources is poor, so this work led by Y. Qin, published in #ASLO_LO provides important new data.

Amanda Ammentorp Pedersen did a fantastic job discussing her MSc project at the thesis defence held this week. Amanda's work focused on how Salix herbacea responds to climate warming along a snow melt gradient in Greenland. Stay tuned for a publication later. :)

A PhD defense starting and I'm in the evaluation committee. I don't know the two other committee members. And suddenly I realize I haven't even read the thesis. I really need to go to the toilet when the defense starts–and I can't find the way back to the auditorium.

Time for vacation, right?

It was a pleasure to visit @uofglasgow.bsky.social Plant Science symposium to give a talk about our work with plant volatiles in Arctic ecosystems.

Learnt a lot and enjoyed the exceptional sunny weather not so common for Scotland.

The first decision each morning:

Which @voltcenter.bsky.social coffee mug to choose today?

Plant, soil, or water?

Proud of MSc Toke Sjøgren from @voltcenter.bsky.social, who brilliantly defended his MSc project on plant VOCs from common European trees under heat and ozone stress.

Toke was co-supervised by @evayp.bsky.social from @fz-juelich.de. All the best with your future endeavors, Toke!

#EGU25 was amazing! Will take some days to recover from the science overload.

I truly enjoyed listening to inspiring talks and checking out posters. The great debate on methane. A few jogs by the Donau. Met many old and new colleagues and friends. Missed at least as many... Until next time!

I am definitely a terrestrial person, so tomorrow I may be in deep water when I tell about our work on VOCs in freshwater and marine ecosystems, May 1st at 10:45 in room E2 at #EGU25.

The photo is evidence for that I have been by a lake shore. 2018, starting #EddyCovariance measurements in Abisko.

Poster session in X1 at #EGU25 in full action. Ida Roos Friis from @voltcenter.bsky.social presenting her poster on methane, CO2, and VOC emissions from subarctic lakes.

What does a professor look like? What does a leadership team look like?

This is the leadership team at @voltcenter.bsky.social, a Center of Excellence funded by @dg.dk.

We support diversity. We aim for a collaborative, creative space for science, which will translate into innovation.

Happy Friday! Here in Denmark it comes with Friday beers (naturally European).

It has been a nice week planning fieldwork in Greenland 🇬🇱 and Sweden🇸🇪, discussing data and manuscripts, giving feedback to students, organizing our upcoming symposium. Normal things in the otherwise crazy world.

🌊🌊The scent of the sea is still far away for Mehrshad Foroughan, the postdoc in the lead of an eddy covariance campaign to the Baltic Sea. Packing, packing...

We will be quantifying air-sea exchange of VOCs through most of 2025 on Utö Marine Research Station.

🌊🌊Marine VOCs are the hot topic of the day in our PTR-MS lab.

Science and sightseeing in Delhi, India!

I had a great time discussing science and collaboration possibilities with #iLEAPS SSC member Dr. Pallavi Saxena and ECSN representative for South Asia & Middle East, Dr. Saurabh Sonwani, both from University of Delhi.

I've spent this week in the EMBO workshop "High Elevation Plant Adaptation in a Changing Climate" in Palampur, India. Inspiring talks, many new friends, and amazing Indian hospitality. Conference trip was to Dalai Lama Temple 🤩

It's nice to get a grant. Even nicer when a group member gets a grant! And how great is it when it is a starting grant!!!

@yijiao.bsky.social came to DK as postdoc, then received his own #MSCA. Now he starts his own group @voltcenter.bsky.social funded by @villumfonden.bsky.social. Huge congrats!

Scientists having a nap in fieldwork?

Nope. They are working with a soil pit when we collected soil for our new paper showing that Greenlandic active layer soils efficiently consume volatile organic compounds (VOCs).

The paper was expertly led by @yijiao.bsky.social.
