What's especially fun about yesterday discovering my shoutout in Life After Cars, is that this evening I'm delivering a talk to @wesmars.bsky.social's class at CU Denver on my exploits in tactical urbanism, for I believe the 7th year in a row.
I had to add a slide for the first time in a few years

Got my copy of Life After Cars this weekend and after a tipoff from Doug that there might be a surprise in there, I decided to check out the index.
Just before Fietsersbond, good company!

The guy drove up onto the sidewalk and flattened this sign, then just drove off. I was riding the other way and I saw him careening back across the road toward me and started to bail before he regained control.

I almost got run over by a maniac in a 2500 this morning.

Though I might need to don the TU vest again and put a plasma cutter to these horizontal bars ruining bike racks across the city.

It’s a beautiful evening in Denver, so I decided to take the long way home and ride around some neighborhoods I rarely visit. Rolled up to new-to-me Longtable Brewhouse and knew I was in the right spot @thewaroncars.bsky.social

Colfax BRT is really happening, and I couldn’t be more excited! This is the first canopy structure that I’ve seen, and it feels like they’re making really good progress.
Still wish there was bike infra included as part of the project tho…

Yeah, that was me.

Grant St, also just milled, repaved and painted with the same inhuman, auto-centric, deadly design.
What on earth are we doing here @DenverDOTI?
How are we not taking advantage of these projects? So unbelievably frustrating.

14th Ave in Cheesman Park was repaved last week, and then restriped with the same deadly three-lane one-way configuration. No bike infrastructure.
@DenverDOTI are we doing #Visionzero or nah?

FOUND IT!!!
We cruised the areas with encampments and found a guy sitting next to it on the sidewalk at Lawrence & 22nd.
Two flat tires (which still hold air) and some missing tools, but otherwise intact.
@NoSquish with the rescue pump.
Woo hoo!...

Hey #BikeDen
Our Ventana El Gran Jefe fat tandem was stolen out of our garage last night after our garage door opener malfunctioned and left the door open all night.
It’s hard to miss, so let me know if you see someone who’s not me riding it.

I’m up in Victoria BC for the @PassiveHouseCan Conference, and I’ve got the whole day to explore tomorrow.
What should I do/see?
I’m out for a walk around downtown tonight before moving over to UVic for the rest of the week tmrw night.
This bike lane on Superior St is gorgeous.

@CUDenver @DenBicycleLobby @SteveStaeger #KilledByATrafficEngineer is poised to be one of the most important “streets” books of our time.
For over a decade, Wes has been training engineers & sending them off to cities across the country w/ the knowledge that there’s another way of...

@CUDenver Terrific turnout for Wes that also felt like a celebration of the Denver urbanist advocacy/activist community, featuring a @DenBicycleLobby shout out.
@SteveStaeger w/ the #bikelove shirt was the perfect host for the evening.

Of note is the spread provided by @CUDenver. Multi-station buffet was some high-class shit for a rabble-rousing professor who’s about to blow minds with the release of #KilledByATrafficEngineer

Bike parking crush greeted me & it only grew from here.
Wes was worried whether enough people would show up to the book launch, and tonight wound up being the Denver urbanism event of the year.

Very much looking forward to the official book release of Wes Marshall’s #KilledByATrafficEngineer this evening at Ironworks Denver, where the @CUDenver Human Centered Transportation Program will also be launched.
See you there!

I love how the new Populus Hotel from @studiogang is finishing up.
Turned on its side, the relief provided by the textured facade looks familiar to these Denver eyes.

Anyone know what the story is with these Delaware DOT self-driving shuttles parked in a lot in RiNo?
November 22, 2024 at 9:40 AM
Just rode from downtown to Cheesman Park along 12th Ave & I had an experience that was common for me riding in Boston, but rare in Denver:
Riding faster than traffic on a narrow (but busy) urban street, passing ppl stuck in cars behind buses pulling over.
Cycling is a superpower

Just finished my 7th(!) annual lecture on tactical urbanism to Prof Wes Marshall’s sustainable transportation systems class at CU Denver.
And this year he’s got a book coming out!

I’m not usually one to cheer the demise of local media, but I’m rooting for the Glendale Cherry Creek Chronicle to get ravaged by a PE firm and driven into bankruptcy.

In addition to a front page above the fold diatribe against the bicycle lobby, this paper also decided to dedicate the editorial to rail against us all as well.
Absolute classic lines throughout this 2010-era piece.
