That is the official stance, but from what I have seen, they eliminated a lot of software engineers.

Supposedly the goal was to eliminate layers of managers between the engineers, not sure if this accomplished that.

The "official" reason is to improve results by having fewer managers and more people in tech roles. But from what I have seen, they laid off a lot of software engineers. It is greed pure and simple.

Certificates will not get you a job per se. However, they should a commitment to lifelong learning. That you are progressing and not remaining stagnant. The job landscape is evolving rapidly and it is important to to demonstrate you are at least swimming in the direction of the curve.
