You’ve seen me around. Writing all over: Letterboxd, Indiewire, AV Club, Vulture, Ebert, etc.
Hi friends. 414 short films were submitted to Overlook Film Festival this year. Humans watched every single one of them, and I personally watched 256. In the end, I selected 22 films from four countries, seven of which are world premieres:

If queer country puts your soul at ease like it does mine, consider subscribing! Rachel is doing great work, all the money goes to her and the writers:

Movies that explicitly link femininity and grotesque transformation, even when they're just okay:

At the beginning of Mulholland Drive, Naomi Watts walks out of LAX and into the brightest, whitest, most optimistic sunlight I've ever seen. I hope David Lynch saw that light again, one last time.

I might actually cry. An American genius, who took us by the hand and led us into the grotesque, the terrifying, and the heartbreakingly pure.

I added to my most bitter Letterboxd list today.

Don't mind me, just thinking about how visionary genius Amanda Kramer predicted the rise (or, in Demi's case, the return) of Cole Escola and Demi Moore by casting them in Please Baby Please (2022)

I wrote about “the summer of Farley” (who still isn’t on Bluesky as far as I know!) and Local Legends for @letterboxd.social

You might not like it, but this is what peak male performance looks like. (WWDITS series finale recap going up later today.)

Decided to switch out the Letterboxd top four, just for fun. Meiko Kaji has a permanent spot, only the titles change.

The Rock DJ number…

Sorry to Wicked but I have already pledged my loyalty to a movie musical this season

I took a vaccine sick day yesterday (side effects weren't so bad this time, but whatever I needed the break), which means I got to watch WHATEVER I WANTED. I was just in Japan, so we made it a Japanese horror/ish triple:

Tiny little place, you can fit MAYBE a dozen people in there. Mostly foreign clientele, but I’m foreign so I can’t complain. All drinks ¥666, which makes change complicated but Go-San commits to the bit.

I hear we are being cool and normal, so here’s some photos I took at the horror bar Deathmatch in Hell in Tokyo. The guy in the Wayne’s World hat is Go-San, the owner. We watched Terrifier.
