I like making things. Like molecules, plants, photos, my kids happy. And food.
professor @ TU Delft, interested in complex systems, organic chemistry, soft materials, healthcare&biology
Not entirely sure what it is we'll be consuming at my department's coffee break, but I'm all in.

Nexus Conference 2025: Mike Pence attending. Interesting to see how his bio seems to gloss over that a major highlight of his life was being a christian fascist who enabled Trump and the misery and suffering that came out of that.

Today TUDelft was on strike, to protest the enormous and repeated budget cuts to education and academic research!

Thank you @lisawesterveld.bsky.social for supporting us!

Large amine substituents destabilize the urea, leading to a dynamic equilibrium with the amine and isocyanate. At that point, at urea can be used as a dynamic covalent bond. This has found application in self-healing materials and many other areas.

These chemical reaction cycles can take off from very small amounts of thiol signal, and over a large range in concentration. Disulfide-crosslinked polymer hydrogels can respond to these #CRNs by disintegrating. That even works by cutting them (generating thiols or radicals)!

We developed caged phosphines based on recently developed reversible beta-substituted Michael acceptors (Feature: doi.org/10.1039/D3CC02…). Thiols can release phosphines, which can reduce disulfide, releasing more thiol, → more phosphine,⟳⟳… well, you get the point

Feature Article out now: Highlighting the advances we have made applying β’-substituted Michael acceptors in Chemical Reaction Networks (CRNs). Check it out: pubs.rsc.org/en/content/a...
