It's not a disgrace. Workers earning min wage are most often unskilled young labor getting their first job. Preventing those people from getting into the workforce b/c of artificially high min wages would only hurt the people you're trying to help.

The best explanation is usually the simplest. When you increase the money supply, each dollar becomes worth less. Do it a lot and you have noticeable inflation.
