Sure, asking for human created art and promoting some good ones would be a truly fantastic thing to do, but that’s a whole different question/engagement strategy that wasn’t replaced by her AI request. It’s not 1:1 here. There are actual hypocrites out there.

I’m trying to be articulate and specific about what the problem actually is and isn’t, and frankly, I don’t see “celebrity asks for ai images on twitter thread” as an example of/contributing to the problem (unless you believe all AI images are bad and have no place in society, whatever the context).

You’re doing a lot of extrapolating. I still think calling her a hypocrite for this is still a stretch. I do recognize there does exist an ethical battle in the art world as a whole with AI images, but I don’t think this instance demonstrates that conflict strongly, if at all.

I get where you’re coming from about broader issues with AI art, but here it feels like a lighthearted, personal request rather than a systemic devaluation of artists. what I would call a punch down is using AI art for album covers or ads, where they make money off of it, which I know is happening.

I see this as part of how industries evolve, like how electric bulbs replaced candles and all the candlemakers needed to find another way to generate income, but I get how that shift can feel unfair or unethical, especially when traditional artists hard work is undervalued.

Do you mean anyone that participates in AI generated images are treating traditional art like it’s disposable? I think that’s quite a broad stroke to paint.

I am aware of the concerns artists have with AI images, but she didn’t ask for “art” and then select an AI image over an artists hard work.

Dear, you said “Audio books count as listening”, implying it doesn’t count as reading. This is almost always an unhelpful and unnecessary distinction when conversing with someone about a book they just read and are excited about. Are you keeping tally for them? To put it simply, IT DOESN’T MATTER.

I think it’s terrible at animation, for one. 😂

There are several things wrong with that argument and you know it. Audio books are literally word for word the same as the book. Movies are not. Why are you acting like audio books don’t have a place in the world. Are you trying to justify your $30 hardcover purchases?

Movies don’t tell the exact same story with the exact same detail when compared to the book. Audio books do. They are literally word for word the same. Also wayyyy more books have an audio version than a movie version. You made a poor substitution.

Technically, correct. Practically, not helpful to this discussion. Distinguishing between “listening” and “reading” is hardly useful when the topic is the content of the literature. But I guess we could use the term “consume” instead, a neutral term for listening and/or reading.
