We also find through an original survey in Kenya that individuals are highly knowledgable about the types of requirements different donors attach to aid. This challenges assumptions we tend to make in IR about individuals' rational ignorance on foreign policy issues.

We argue and show that Africans are more accepting of aid requirements when they distrust their government but trust the donor. In such cases, donor requirements are a welcome form of external accountability on the government.

In fact, co-financing among IOs in international finance is extremely common and has increased over time as more IOs have entered the space. The book seeks to explain the conditions under which this cooperation materializes and its downstream implications for IO effectiveness.

The book problematizes an assumption often made in the IO literature, namely that when IOs overlap, they are inherently in competition for states' business. I argue this assumption obscures interesting variation in the extent to which IOs cooperate vs. compete with one another.
