I grew up in Omaha, Catholic, graduating class less than 70, and several were openly gay or bi or unsure. That was 1981, I don't remember anyone thinking it was strange. One of them committed suicide, and the entire student body grieved deeply. I can't believe what's going on, almost 40 years later.

It's important to encourage kids to think about what they want to say and how to say it, and because swearing is inexact and lazy language meant as a placeholder for something more precise and meaningful, I definitely lean toward not swearing when speaking to adults, let alone kids
