I can’t speak to academic theories outside my field. But as a general principle, opposition to nuance seems like the fundamental reason why so many things have gone wrong lately.

I’ve seen this only once in over 6 years of living in NYC. Saw it multiple times in Chicago on a one-week trip. I imagine this does great harm to the health of L riders, and to the city overall by inducing more people to drive instead.

Isn’t this the first presidential election in NY to have early in-person voting, without massive pandemic disruptions? I don’t think there’s a fair point of comparison here.
