An ex-colleague messaged from a developers conference recently saying that an image used by one of the speakers had my name as a credit.

It turned out to be this annotated Dunning Kruger curve.

The graph goes up sharply at the beginning as someone gains initial knowledge of a topic, then declines rapidly as they learn how much they don't yet know. The graph gradually curves upwards again over time, as they gain knowledge about the topic. My annotations: 1. At the start of the graph (representing the star of the challenge) - Be kind to people who are here, you’ll be back here yourself, many times. 2. At the top of the initial curve, when confidence is high - Practice humility & self-awareness: recognise when you are here. Also avoid people who can’t or won’t recognise it in themselves. 3. In the dip when things state getting tough - The real work is just starting here. Be gentle with yourself. Set small, achievable goals. 4. On the way back up the curve, as wisdom and confidence increases - several points stating ‘never be afraid to ask for help’. 5. Back at the top of the curve, when someone finally achieves mastery - Learn from people who made it here. They have been on the same journey. And once you get here, give back.
