Arc Raiders is the example of how it stinks out the joint. That was the whole point. If someone makes something genuinely novel and interesting with gen AI, rather than just using it as a cost saving measure to the detriment of their art, I would consider it!

Iron Lung and Threshold are both good hour-ish games, provided you like horror.

Thanks Gareth! Glad you found it useful.

Does increasingly seem like a lot of industry higher-ups viewed Arc Raiders as a victory for sideloading AI into development workflows without major blowback. Or at least, enough positive vibes to bury any blowback.

In which case...oops?

Imagine if I'd given it one star.

Heh, it's been an interesting one for sure, but I was prepared for it. And all the support from good people such as yourself has helped a lot, so thank you as well!

...but when it comes to the NPC voices, Embark uses AI voices rather than human performances, which demonstrates that as creators they don't really think human voices are important. For me, that represents a failure of artistic integrity, hence the low score.

It isn't just that I don't like the AI voices. It's that their presence in the game contradicts its own themes. It's a game in which humanity has a better chance of survival against the robots when they communicate using their voices, so clearly human communication is important in ARC's world...

Ah that's really lovely of you to say. Thank you so much! And contest still kinda works so you're good!

Honestly I am surprised they aren't worse.
