The unexamined life is not worth living for a human being - Socrates
It's better to light a flamethrower than curse the darkness - Terry Pratchett
These are definitely not rookie numbers.
Arc Raiders is 3rd on the list of most played games after Counter Strike 2 and Dota 2, beating even Battlefield 6.
It is the current best selling game, and their concurrent player numbers are still growing.
Mad success, deservedly so for what should be GOTY.

Finally, the city is famous for its fossils of the Mosasaurus, or 'Maas Lizard', an aquatic reptile up to 17 meters long which was an apex predator 82 to 66 million years ago.

It can be seen in the city's natural history museum, along with many other fossils.

A lovely and charming city ❤️ (5/5)

The Onze-Lieve-Vrouwebasiliek has the famous 15th century Maria statue 'Sterre der Zee'.

Unlike the other churches it was quite dark inside which however made it moody but beautiful with strong light-dark contrasts. (4/5)

Maastricht is the only Dutch city with a 'twin church', a Catholic and Protestant church side by side, the Sint-Servaasbasiliek and the Sint-Janskerk (whose tower you can climb).

What was truly remarkable were their incredibly ancient (some more than 1000 years old) silk fabrics. (3/5)

Maastricht is 2000 years old and started as a fording place of the river Maas.

The Romans build a bridge and fortified it, calling it Mosa Trajectum (Maas crossing).

The current bridge is the fourth iteration.

Remains of the Roman fort gate can be seen (for free) beneath hotel Derlon. (2/5)

I also visited Maastricht, the capital of Limburg, which is the only place in the Netherlands not completely flat.

Strong Flemish, French and German influences have made it very distinct from the rest of the country.

It has the oldest bridge in the Netherlands, the 1280 AD Sint Servaasbrug. (1/5)

Their art collection is diverse, and while lacking true masterpieces, it still has many gorgeous paintings (2/2)

I highly recommend visiting the Noordbrabants Museum, which is both a provincial history and an art museum.
- Agony in the Garden of Gethsemane
- Roman cavalry helmet
- Perfectly preserved Roman glass
- Catholics wealth outweighed by Protestant faith (1/2)

You likely will have see her before, as she is sitting here at the table in Van Gogh's very famous painting 'De aardappeleters' (The potato eaters') (1885) (2/2)

I went to visit the Noordbrabants Museum as I had donated with thousands of others so they could buy Van Gogh's painting 'Kop van een vrouw' (Head of a Woman) (1885), painted very near me in Nuenen.

The woman is Gordina de Groot (1855-1927), called Sien, a farmer's daughter (1/2)

Predator: Badlands (2025) is yet another successful Predator movie by director Dan Trachtenberg (Prey (2022), Killer of Killers (2025)).
I enjoyed how old Predator tropes were reversed and Elle Fanning is great is her dual role as Thia and Tessa.
'Disney' creature may annoy people but not me 7.5/10

RIP Lee Tamahori, a great film maker whose masterpiece Once Were Warriors (1994) is extraordinary and must see. I’ll never forget watching it.
I also want to mention his underrated fascinating thriller film The Devil's Double (2011).

Random raider in Arc Raiders gifted me blueprint and blue gun, and then guided me to some epic items.
Another game I extracted with 4 random raiders.
Teamed up with randoms a few times.
Last game today got gunned down by a raider at the extraction point.
Anything can happen, which makes it great 😀

I finally received my friend @akairondragon.ca ‘s first published book, hot off the press !
Can’t wait to dive into it and learn more about this gripping tale 😃

I went to see the local comedy play Super Super about a local market’s struggle against the Mega Markt.

It was very funny and good practice for me learning the local dialect 😃

I missed the Distant Worlds 3 event, but I made it to The View in my new Mandalay starship and landed safely.

Sadly, purchased the stellar edition of the ship but found it was not engineered.

The new MetaElite companion app is quite amazing.
This is a great addition to Distant Worlds 3.

Ironically, the Roman Republic came to an end when Julius Caesar in 44 BC, and then Augustus in 27 BC, simply absorbed all state power becoming de facto kings (dictator/princeps) in all but name, unobstructed by a cowardly and sycophant Senate…well, you can see where I am going with this (5/5)

The Roman Republic was founded after the Romans overthrew the 7th and last of their kings, the tyrannical Lucius Tarquinius Superbus in 509 BC

This is the true inspiration of No Kings Day. (4/5)

However, in that time especially, the ancient Greeks and Romans were part of advanced education, and the idealised Roman Republic was on everyone’s minds when they decided to become a republic themselves. (3/5)

It was the introduction of new taxes with the hated Stamp Act (1765), the Townshend Acts (1767), and finally the famous Tea Act (1773) that got the Americans to declare their revolution, the anti-monarchy aspect was a secondary and later development. (2/5)
October 19, 2025 at 10:34 AM
Looking at the No Kings phenomenon the historian in me makes me comment this actually reflects ancient Roman Republic history more than American history.

The pre-revolution Americans were much more concerned with taxes than with their king. (1/5)

Mario Kart team outing followed by dinner in my favourite Indian restaurant in Amsterdam (Balraj) 😋

Worth the 3.5 hour train ride

I went to see a local play advertised as a murder mystery which turned out to be a comedy continuously breaking the fourth wall.

Hilarity ensued when the director got murdered too and the actors went out of control 😂

“Are we allowed to improvise?”
“Why not, the director is dead” 😆

I feared playing To the Moon: Beach Episode as the characters Kan Gao created as are close to my heart as my own family, and the Sigmund Minisodes were ominous.

My fears were proven true as In just 2.6 hours I was (again) emotionally destroyed.

Damn you, Kan 10/10 would cry again
