As a left leaning progressive Canberran voter, I'm hopeful this is a sign the ACT Libs are moving closer to the electorate's values.

23 years is a long time for any party to be in power without becoming complacent/corrupt/incompetent.

Apparently RFK actually believes in the efficacy of vaccines, but sees the anti-vax and associated grab bag of issues as a productive voter lode to mine.

Exactly. Politicians follow the base, it's easy. Changing hearts and minds on the other hand...

I learnt this when the word came down the chain in the ALP that Beazley would tackle the anti refugee propaganda after the 2000 election, there wasn't enough time after Tampa.

It never happened.

She must have a very poor opinion of the rest of our collective intelligence.

Why don't the Greens fill this gap?

And of course the continuing approval of extra fossil fuel extraction points, in opposition to IPCC recommendations.

I think I see some common elements here:

2-4 were 80's Oz identity songs, during a period of Oz resurgence on the international stage

2 & 3 have strong use of suspense-release in their melodies

All 4 are highly played, very conventional pop songs.

Personally I'm a sucker for suspense-release.

Can't you see the extraordinary wit required for this?
July 10, 2025 at 7:35 AM
I did that when I was a 5yo. I stopped after the fire got away from me and the firetruck came.

Well, she is a "Special" Envoy.

"Why are those on the Far Right so stupid?"

That's a chicken and egg question.
June 26, 2025 at 3:56 AM
I don't think the arms manufacturers and logistics companies would like that.

"Witless". What a great adjective. Pretty mild on the surface, but in fact it's way worse than even a halfwit.

Yes, but they're the ones more likely to vote anyway.

The cynical (ie realistic) ones who stay away in voluntary voting systems dilute them in a compulsory voting system.
June 11, 2025 at 11:24 PM
Yes. The Anglosphere has a cultural propensity for forelock tugging. Or maybe it's genetic, who's to say?
June 11, 2025 at 11:11 PM
I would argue the opposite. I'm Australian and we have compulsory voting. That means the cynical ones come out and vote for their least worse choice, as opposed to voluntary voting where crazy, emotionally worked up people are the main ones who vote.

Same with me, but she was the second I thought of. The first was Friendly Jordies.

But you can't increase wages without productivity increases
June 5, 2025 at 12:01 AM
The grass roots of the ALP have very, very little influence. Just ask the third of the membership who quit after Tampa.
June 4, 2025 at 11:52 PM
Oh good! I've been missing his melodious twang, sound, truthful logic, and above all his compassion.
June 4, 2025 at 11:44 PM
If by some miracle the Greens got past all of the propaganda and achieved a parliamentary majority, what's to stop the fossils from buying them off too?
