The librarian at my elementary school was named Miss Wilmer. I’m now 72, but I still remember how she got us interested in books. “Do you like pirates, sea stories, ghost stories, mysteries, or what?” Mysteries and ghost stories for me. She recommended a couple and I was off. Wonderful.

That’s a beautiful tree even if there were no birds. Huge trees in winter, with no leaves at all, can be quite majestic.
