I wouldn’t put it past them to style their Joan exactly the same way except the Milla Jovovich one in ‘99 already did it.

Queer 🇵🇸 designers Trashy Clothing (fashionstudiesjournal.com/Queer-Fashio...) nearly worked with 🇮🇸‘s Hatari for #Eurovision coloured carpet in 2019, did work with 🇵🇹’s Iolanda in 2024, now with Bambie Thug (🇮🇪 ‘24) for last night’s Together for Palestine fundraiser.

But for numerous reasons we are still a very long way away from seeing a Eurovision equivalent of this from Paris Olympics opening ceremony
(🇵🇸 has an Olympic committee, doesn’t have broadcaster independent enough to join EBU which organises Eurovision, only ever gets repped there through diaspora)

Lots of reactions to new Eurovision branding have been saying it looks ‘childish’.
Quite convenient when you’ve got a suddenly contentious international event on your hands.
Let’s keep everything safe and friendly for the kids.

Many new measures for Eurovision this year are meant to bring it into line with production of other large-scale events.
New flag policy for flag parade and green room is part of that for EBU. But means no more celebrations of 🏳️🌈/🏳️⚧️ and national identity at once.

Eurovision always trades on fun. Parties, glitter, disco balls, the 🏳️🌈 community who faithfully zhizh it up for everyone else.
This year’s also gone big on heritage. 🇨🇭 was the first host country in 1956, and the last time it won before Nemo, its winner became an Abba-level global megastar.

Nemo on 🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️ flags at Eurovision: ‘You can’t be known for like the queerest thing in the world, a contest that has been associated with queerness and gay culture for so long, and then be like, “oh, we don’t allow Pride flags for the artists”
They nearly didn’t get this one into their own flag parade
