In her proposed changes to the asylum system the Home Secretary referred to the anger some people in the UK feel at the moment. People seeking protection in the UK are being used as scapegoats to deflect anger away from the problems that really need tackling. Communities need connecting not dividing

Many countries have banned asylum seekers from working

🚨Not a single country saw a reduction in asylum cases the following few years, not even a simple correlation🚨

94% of asylum seekers want to work, if their work ban were lifted, they could add £333 million annually to the economy

This statement from people living in asylum hotels in Greater Manchester is a compassionate response to the rise in violent protests written by people who are living it every day. I hope it leads to more nuanced conversations and understanding. Thankyou to everyone involved in putting it together.
Recently, we have seen an increase in protests and demonstrations outside asylum hotels, driven by misinformation and fear.

Greater Manchester Asylum Hotels Group have written a statement to respond directly to the concerns and questions they’ve heard from local communities.

We cannot stress enough how harmful asylum hotels are — contrary to the perception that they are 'luxurious'. They must be closed urgently but not be replaced with crumbling, overcrowded & isolated large sites.

Thanks @benchu.bsky.social for dispelling the myths around asylum hotels 👇
How many illegal immigrants are living in the UK?

Are they put up in ‘four star hotels’?

Are phones and iPads provided?

The horrors in Gaza continue as the Israeli military opens fire at a food distribution point.

And yet Keir Starmer still refuses to act.

The government must end all arms sales to Israel, call for an immediate ceasefire and denounce Israel's atrocities for what they are - genocide.

14,000 babies will die in Gaza in the next 48 hours if Israel continues to prevent baby food aid from reaching Palestinians.

There is no question, no nuance, no possible justification.

We must do everything we possibly can to stop Israel from committing such atrocities #r4today

This government is proposing an escalation of hostile, racist immigration controls. They say that building an industry of cruelty and forcing people into detention and destitution is the only way to solve the problems Britain is facing. But these are not solutions. ⬇️
