If I am using funds to pay undergrad students, I structure the payments as participant support (aka stipends not hourly) and there is no overhead on it! As long as they receive additional professional development or other benefits beyond contractual, menial work it is allowed.

My students definitely ask to feature my dog on our (research lab) TikTok, but I tell them we can’t afford his contracting fee 😆
