This opening paragraph is terrible. “At some point in the future” could be 10 years from now, or 20, or 200.
Not long ago, A.I. became intelligent. Some may dismiss this claim, but the number of people who doubt A.I's acumen is dwindling. According to a 2024 YouGov poll, a clear majority of U.S. adults say that computers are already more intelligent than people or will become so in the near future.

Hard to believe this didn’t work.
The ad opened with an image of a smiling Mamdani with the Twin Towers burning in the background. It then went on to highlight Mamdani's hobnobbing with Hasan Piker, a left-leaning "influencer," highlighting a clip of Piker stating in a past episode of his hugely popular podcast that America "deserved 9/11."

I keep forgetting to post Ernie and Bert. This was morning treat time today.

Mamdani's victory, above all, is a rebuke to the conventional strategies of the Democratic party, which in the year since Donald Trump's victory in the 2024 presidential election had been in a state of malaise and decline. Text from the New Yorker article about AI follows. One longstanding criticism of L.L.M.s has been that, because they must generate one token of their response at a time, they can’t plan or reason. But, when you ask Claude to finish a rhyming couplet in a poem, a circuit begins considering the last word of the new line, to insure that it will rhyme. It then works backward to compose the line as a whole. Anthropic researchers counted this as evidence that their models do engage in planning. Squint a little and you might feel, for the first time, that the inner workings of a mind are in view.

Overtime is a big source of income for a lot of cops.
There are financial incentives for agencies willing to sign up. Local departments that sign 287(g) agreements can have each deputized officer’s salary, benefits, and overtime costs fully covered by the federal government.
