I think about the future a lot.
Excellent! We never know what will make someone chance on a solid lead, so we have to take all the shots.

Can you kill what's already dead?

The output out of that program so far has been less than what we normally see out of ME/CFS research, which barely runs on fumes.

Well, before LC, since in recent years funding has actually gone down, because humanity is just plain stupid most of the time.

Is it possible that all the crap going on at the NIH has quietly cancelled the entire Long COVID RECOVER program and we just haven't heard about it?

Because out of the initial $1.15B funding, I can maybe count 5 small and uninteresting papers. If it hasn't been cancelled, how could we even tell?

Unfortunately, it seems like the strategy of not bothering to do anything about it is not working out any better than for all the other millions of problems it has been tried on.

I'm so sorry for your life struggles. Must be hard to be such a loser.

5 years of denial of #LongCovid have provided the biggest boost to antivaccine conspiracists in history. Even worse than the Lancet's major blunder, which was never held accountable.

It will only get worse with time. This is a major historical failure of leadership and expertise.

Health care systems dealing with Long Covid and similar chronic illnesses they neglected for decades:

And it does have it. Yes, most MDs are perfectly willing to pretend that LC doesn't even exist, is nothing to worry about and can be ignored with some cheap CBT and exercise.

No, it doesn't matter that it doesn't work. They don't care. It's not their problem, they see nothing.

But when you look at the continuing damage from letting it rip, it is 100% the product of agency, of essentially giving in to the virus so that it feasts on us and reaches it kill count.

Especially Long Covid, which medicine is ineptly doing everything to maximize its spread and harm.

Excellent point by @uselesspriest.bsky.social, at the bad place.

With a reduction of no more than 50% in #LongCovid, because of the strategy of vax-and-forget-all-about-it, vaccines likely increased cases of LC.

Because half of 10-100x is still way more than all of a smaller number. Basic math.

Seriously, what is wrong with these people?

How do they have zero ambition? No capacity for being ashamed of being this inept? Unable (unwilling?) to apply any reasoning skills? How are they this detached from reality?

It's like an entire system built to be ineffective & never find out about it.

Somehow I feel like I'm the only person annoyed at how this entire field only ever aims for the barest minimum, then even failing at it, pretend that it's just as good because reasons.

Always the bare minimum. Always aiming for the bottom, then staying there. Such low energy people.

Most #LongCovid studies and data reports from authorities continues to be a slight variation of this (except for the watching the whole time):

Literally thousands of people with zero medical training predicted this in the early months of COVID.

We have less access to the same data the experts have.

We look at the same thing and see it for what it is.

As 'blind spots' go, this is exactly like this:
November 17, 2024 at 3:20 PM
It's very hard to think of any other professional training that leads to anything this bad. The ignorance. The disrespect. The confidently wrong. There's nothing else like this out there.

Hard not to conclude that medical training is uniquely bad, and this may explain, uh, *gestures wildly*.

It's wild seeing people slowly realize that rules don't matter, only enforcement does.

Laws, rules, constitutions, duties, oaths, responsibilities, rights, etc. All of this is just words somewhere, nowadays often not even on paper anymore.

All this stuff is empty air. It has no force in itself.

When the Trump FDA starts recommending raw milk to address the growing problem of "immunity debt" and the cranks with medical degrees get confused at why their idea is applied exactly as they presented it for the exact same reasons they do
