A new season's best for the half marathon! 🥇🏃‍♂️

And yes, it still counts even though it's my first race of the year! 😝

Very much enjoyed my annual pilgrimage to the London Quaternary Lectures @rhulgeography.bsky.social, 😊

Brilliant talks from Joy Singarayer (Reading) & Sarah Woodroffe (Durham), 👩‍🏫

Looking forward to next year's already! 👀

It's been a while since I last BlueSkyed (that's the verb, right?)...

...but here's the latest #tephra -tastic offering from the #LakeSuigetsu varved sediments, led by Sophie Vineberg, @volcrocks.bsky.social, @danmclean.bsky.social and other not-yet-BlueSkyers (the noun?)...

I misunderstood the memo, and duly entered the #Aintree half marathon...

Turns out the #Horsepower project is actually about the "interactions between China, Mongolia and the steppe 2000-0 BCE" (with a particular focus on domesticated horses and metallurgy), 🇨🇳↔️🇲🇳

And after all that effort too, 🏃‍♂️🤷‍♂️🏅

I am so pleased to be rejoining the world leading Oxford Radiocarbon Accelerator Unit (ORAU), now under the leadership of the wonderful Rachel Wood,

…where I have been straight BACK IN THE SADDLE in the #radiocarbon (#14C) lab 🦴🧪⏳

Somewhat after THE proverbial HORSE (i.e., me!) HAS BOLTED… 🐎
But I have moved on from SUERC (University of Glasgow) to PASTURES NEW… 🌾🌾🌾

My thanks, in particular, to David Sanderson & the Luminescence (#OSL) group… 🚨
But it’s out of the darkness at SUERC, and back in to the light… 💡 (1/3)

So much time and hard work gone into this #tephra -tastic effort led by Becca Kearney analysing sediment cores from Lakes Lia and Brazi, Romania:

Major and trace element analysis imply volcanic sources from Anatolia, Italy and Iceland!

It's taken 3 days to recover, but putting out there a new marathon PB! 🏃‍♂️🏅 #OultonPark #RunThroughUK
Note the precision timing of the geochronologist in ducking under 3 and a half hours! ⏱️😊
