That’s also how I view it. But me being in a more fortunate financial position doesn’t make it not a state pension. I think this will hurt a lot of people living outside the UK.

Well, yeah… for now. But who knows what changes going forward. The entire thing is in flux. I don’t think this is a good situation for a state pension to be in.

Not much use in thinking about money if you are going to ignore its time value, but there’s more to this right? Like, I don’t mind supporting the social safety net, but I don’t think that’s why I am being charged more. It’s more about looking for cash from wherever it can be grabbed fast.

It existed for overseas Brits and from April it won’t. The punt I’m talking about is that (the existence of the class 2 option), rather than returns etc. I imagine what they did is legal but doubt it should be.

There was a class 2 plan and there isn’t anymore, because that plan was scrapped. No?

I’ve also seen nothing about what the wider review of VNICs means that gives me a clear pic that putting money into class 3 is anything other than a gamble at this point.

That’s fine but I am surprised it is legal for the Labourvatives to scrap a long-term investment plan on a whim. I wouldn’t be in the UK pension system if Class 3 had been the only option available when I decided to start putting money in.
