Historian | In the Land of the Lacandón | Backpack Ambassadors | Riding the New Wave | Transnational Histories of Youth | Portland | Pacific University
Watched 'Nouvelle Vague' last weekend and can't get it out of my head. Like a nostalgia palimpsest, 25-30 years ago I was living in Paris studying this era, watching these films, thinking about the idea of youth and young people while young myself; melancholy for a time and place I did not witness.

'In the Land of the Lacandón' has been taught this Fall in history, anthropology, cultural studies, methods, and lit classes. We put it together to be a flexible tool for the classroom enabling instructors to emphasize a variety of suitable themes. Consider for Spring! www.mqup.ca/in-the-land-...

Get yourself a daughter who, every time she passes the big indy bookstore near her university, goes in and front-faces your new book on the shelf

Every year our block closes the street to have a Halloween party and every year Jamie brings out his grill and offers free hot dogs to all.(he’s from Chicago). Cooler of beer, adults only.

In truly devastating news from PDX, it turns out that Trader Joe's Black Sesame Mochi is seasonal?
And now out of season! NOOOOO!
Can the CA National Guard bring supplies?

I was just there this morning. This is the block. Nothing is on fire. There is no destruction. There is no War Zone. We were out for a 22-mile bike ride on a beautiful Sunday morning. Our biggest obstacle was repeatedly encountering the ongoing PDX marathon route.

I’ve returned to “war ravaged” PDX where it is a beautiful day and I plan to do some gardening and go for a run through the hellscape.

My thanks again to @pfmcdevitt.bsky.social, Stewart Weaver, Jessica Hardin, and @rebeccapscales.bsky.social for welcoming me at UB, UR, and RIT for a WNY book tour.
