Because it doesn't have to be this way. They can change it so people have more spare cash in their pocket. They're choosing not to. Instead they're selling us out to US tech barons.

That's why it's Labour's fault
December 11, 2025 at 9:18 PM
Yes he did. Which makes you wonder why Starmer wanted to follow him so much.
December 8, 2025 at 5:46 AM
He probably shouldn't have starved the kids then
December 7, 2025 at 10:33 PM
I did wonder about that! 🤣
December 7, 2025 at 10:20 PM
That is exactly what the government is doing. Yes.
December 3, 2025 at 12:54 PM
Do I really need to explain what I meant by using it as shorthand? We are both intelligent enough to get it.
December 3, 2025 at 11:08 AM
Yes. I'm using it as shorthand for privately owned limited liability companies.

And I am suggesting tipping the playing field away from them and into worker and community owned businesses.

I'm doing this because I believe those are better for society.
December 3, 2025 at 10:59 AM
There should be very strong worker protection anyway. No matter if the business is oligarch or worker owned
December 3, 2025 at 10:32 AM
To be replaced by the jobs in the booming worker and community owned businesses that are replacing the poor broke billionaires
December 3, 2025 at 5:36 AM
There are massive barriers to entry in many sectors.

That's why I'm saying that we need to lower the barriers for co-ops and raise them for capital.

Then you will see them thrive. You won't now because the economy is geared towards wealth
December 2, 2025 at 3:41 PM
Not sure we should start comparing what politicans say in their speeches and what they do. It wouldn't be Sultana coming out of it looking the worst.

But they do use rhetoric. "Nationalise the economy" as a starting point for discussions about how to do it.
December 2, 2025 at 3:39 PM
A bold statement of intent is not ridiculous if you are able and importantly are allowed to quickly follow up with what you mean by that.

It gets people talking about you, even if it's disparaging. Hopefully it now allows her to expand on it.

As long as she doesn’t literally mean it I suppose.
December 2, 2025 at 3:28 PM
Because the people in power have no interest in making them common.

That's where this party can make inroads. Nobody has tried to found a party like it either.

Unsurprisingly!
December 2, 2025 at 3:25 PM
She's talking about the end goal without talking about how to get there. It's going to seem short sighted. But there is plenty of information about how to do it out there.

They're not more common because people can't commit to the time and expense of setting them up. We need to reform the system
December 2, 2025 at 2:04 PM
No, I would leave the party.
December 2, 2025 at 1:45 PM
Not sure why anyone would think having wealth and power in the hands of the few, which is what you're arguing for, rather than local people. But that's liberals for you.
December 2, 2025 at 1:44 PM
You asked how you turn privately owned SME companies over to the workers. You got your answer - you don't, you make it easier for worker and community owned businesses to succeed.
December 2, 2025 at 1:44 PM
In the ways I outlined above. With state aid, but not state control.

We don't need venture capitalists to have good things. We do need workers.
December 2, 2025 at 1:01 PM
The bigoted MPs have left. The others say they will follow the outcome of the vote and campaign for Trans liberation.
December 2, 2025 at 12:59 PM
The party isn't being led by the leaders (if that makes any sense!) it's being led by the members.

Everyone in the party needs to follow the outcome of this vote, no matter what their personal beliefs.
December 2, 2025 at 12:58 PM
Yet the party is now explicitly for Trans liberation.
December 2, 2025 at 11:32 AM
My wife's nursery is employee owned and has a turnover north of £50m

But ask yourself if large corporations are better for us? Isn't it better to have multiple smaller co-ops that can react to the local communities needs?
December 2, 2025 at 11:16 AM
You give community businesses government contracts.

You increase regulation on the oligarchs, so they can't pollute our rivers and fire our workers.

Basically you tilt the balance in favour of normal people and let nature take its course.
December 2, 2025 at 9:39 AM
First you need to ask yourself what is the better way to run things, democratic worker and community or venture capital and oligarch owned businesses?

Then you put in place tax breaks for worker owned businesses. As well as things like cheap centralised credit, grants for training and r+d.
December 2, 2025 at 9:36 AM
That's the question.

For me, it means altering the balance of the economy gradually through tax and spend priorities so worker co-operatives can out-compete capitalist owned companies and grow.

Be interesting to find out what she means. Hopefully she gets the chance to spell it out.
