Had no problems tonight watching the Jake Paul/Anthony Joshua fight on Netflix. This is a big improvement over the Jake Paul/Mike Tyson fight where the show crashed from Netflix not having enough bandwidth. Joshua won by KO in the 6th round.

"Eyes Wide Shut" is second only to "Die Hard" in Christmas Movies that are about something other than Christmas. So I'll ask this question. What overtly religious symbol is seen in Bill and Alice Harford's apartment? Secular holiday symbols like a Christmas tree don't count. (continued)

You Tube advises I have a "curious mind" and the music video I watched the most was "Piggy in the Middle" by The Rutles. If you're unfamiliar with the song, watch the video with the lyrics on. The song is a satire of "I Am the Walrus."

✨47 years ago today: The Star Wars Holiday Special aired (Nov 17, 1978) — Itchy grunted, Bea Arthur sang, Harvey Korman cooked, and we got Boba Fett.
Lucas disowned it. Fans bootlegged it. Now it's widely available.
✨ Happy Life Day! ✨

I was unimpressed with "Weapons," a surprise since I liked "Barbarian" the first film of director Zach Cregger. 128 minutes is a bit long for uninteresting characters. The story has huge gaps -- a police procedural would have solved the mystery quickly.

In "King Lear" (1987) Jean-Luc Godard's strengths in presenting visual imagery are present. His attempt to fashion a contemplation of Shakespeare's "King Lear" are less successful. "King Lear" is at its best in the early scenes. Toward the end, I was ready for the 90 minute film to be over.

Movies about all-powerful computers vs. mankind are increasingly common. "Colossus: The Forbin Project" (1970) is an excellent one. "Mission: Impossible -- The Final Reckoning" reduces that concept to an action film that's good in parts but much too long. 170 minutes.

When the NFL suspended Brian Branch of the Lions for hitting JuJu Smith-Schuster of the Chiefs after the 30-17 KC win I thought it unjust because multiple incidents where Smith-Schuster was the aggressor had preceded it. KC was flagged for zero penalties in their win.

Not sure if I've ever posted anywhere about Columbus Day but I've long thought it should be abolished. Instead I'd make Halloween (and the next day) a federal holiday. More people protest against Columbus Day than actually celebrate it. Halloween is widely celebrated -- a fun holiday!

Watched "The Woman in Cabin 10" on Netflix. I liked it better than most reviews, but agree it's less than the film adaptations of similar stories. Rich people on a big yacht. Mysterious events including a person-over-board no one believes happened. This setting needs style the film doesn't have.

Nope. You greet the visiting team with respect and then defeat them on the field. I used to work for the Sports Information office at the Univ. of Alabama. I wrote pre-game copy. Never say anything to motivate your opponent.

Tommy Boyce and Bobby Hart were the musical part of "The Monkees" much more than the four actors who appeared on the television program. (The name "Bryce" is a typo by the Associated Press.)
Bobby Hart, a key part of the Monkees’ multimedia empire who teamed with Tommy Boyce on such hits as “Last Train to Clarksville” and “I’m Not Your Steppin’ Stone,” has died. He was 86.
Bobby Hart, co-wrote 'Last Train to Clarksville' and other hits for the Monkees, dead at 86

Watched the live boxing on Netflix which wasn't over till past 2 a.m. this morning in the Eastern Time Zone. It was better technically than the Paul/Tyson disaster but no where near the quality of the recent NFL game on You Tube. Live TV is a challenge to produce.

Congrats to Brazil, the NFL and You Tube. Netflix's Tyson/Paul fight was a disaster with not enough bandwidth for the number of customers watching. Tonight's NFL game on You Tube ran smoothly with clear picture and audio. And Brazil did a fine job with hosting the game.

I liked the half-time show for the NFL game tonight in Brazil. Much better than most recent Super Bowl half-time shows.

The long-time rumors turn out to be true. A friend from McNairy County, Tennessee, told me rather than being a hero-sheriff (as the movie "Walking Tall" claims), Buford Pusser was just another gangster with a badge.

The point this article misses is that if "K-Pop Demon Hunters" had been a traditional theatrical release, it would have had difficulty building the repeat-view fan following the film built on streaming.

Sony sold Netflix the rights to ‘KPop Demon Hunters’ in a pandemic-era safety play—and now it’s Netflix’s biggest movie ever
“KPop Demon Hunters” is a potential billion-dollar franchise for Netflix, potentially what “Frozen” is for Disney. As for Sony … not so much.

When ‪@kpopdemonhunters.bsky.social‬ debuted in June I gave it little notice. Watched it tonight and was surprised at how good it was. Sony did the animation at their Canadian studios, but gave the property to Netflix. Rated PG.

Here's a good 4th of July story. A sold-out crowd at Wrigley Field watched the Cubs hit a franchise record eight home runs in one game.

The Rock HoF did a good job this year selecting who to induct. I'm pleased to see Carol Kaye (age 90) and Chubby Checker (Age 83) inducted while still living. Warren Zevon's induction seems quite a few years too late, but at least he's in.

Leonard Maltin rated "Thank God It's Friday" BOMB and called it "perhaps the worst film ever to have won some kind of Academy Award." Did Oscars voters need to watch the entire film to know "Last Dance" is a great song? (It won the Best Song Oscar.)
