Getting a hold of a PS2 again was one of my smartest purchases. I'm having a blast! Such an amazing console with a vast library of games.
It's all a big legal kerfuffle. Nobody knows who actually has the rights to it so it can't be re-released in any form. Nightdive have been trying for ages to remaster the entire series. It's a real shame.
