If you see this, quote with a robot that is not from Star Wars, Star Trek, Doctor Who or Transformers

October’s quote of the month is from a Langston Hughes poem.

“Hold fast to dreams
For if dreams die
Life is a broken-winged bird
That cannot fly”.

It’s September, so it’s time for another office quote of the month! This time, it’s from Carl Jung

Three weeks ago, a patient kicked me so hard in the temple. It took at least 10 days to recover from the concussion.

Tonight, it happened *again* - kicked in the eye & across the room by another patient as I calmly tried to talk him down.

I’m not the only one. And it’s completely unacceptable.

The FA has banned trans women from playing women’s football.
What problem does it solve? How were the 0.0002% of players who are trans (none of them professional) causing harm?

Sport should be inclusive, it’s so important for health. Excluding whole groups without justification is totally wrong.

One of my favourite quotes from Pope Francis, who said he would be a “Pope of the poor”.
He spoke out against injustice, emphasizing the need for compassion, calling for peace & strongly supporting the Palestinian people under attack. Rest in peace.

Quote of the month.
This is from Charlie Chaplin’s famous ‘The Great Dictator’ speech, and I think it’s pertinent right now.

Quote of the month for my office.

This one is courtesy of my daughter’s Winnie the Pooh book - I read it to her and instantly liked it!

I’m not sure I read the conclusions the same way. They said that 2/3 of pts tested for trop had no chest pain, & <2% had ACS, which is below the test threshold.

So, while they do later infer that we may under-test in CP (with no data, as John says), they also suggest eliminating 2/3 of trop tests

The ban itself appears to relate only to private prescribing (see recommendations below). But there is also active legislation that appears to still prevent new NHS prescribing as well…

Looking in further detail, we can see evidence of catch-up at later follow up. E.g., Carmichael showed no difference in age-adjusted bone density at 36 months…

The systematic review abstract suggests that there were issues with bone mineral density in treated patients…
Sounds potentially concerning, but let’s look further…

Irrespective, the Cass report recommended that more evidence should be gathered for puberty blockers, via a new trial (which is in setup, hoping to start in spring 2025)…
