Essentially, Trump is ignoring what the US is good at (services), and doubling down on what it is bad at (cheap manufacturing).
Isn’t there some general principle that you should play to your strengths?

Agreed!

We should only buy planes from countries we have strong reason to believe are our allies. Right now that is unclear with regard to the US.
