The supply base should be of primary concern. For every OEM worker, there are 5-7 in the supply base. If Chinese transplants their supply base, the calculus changes. These dynamics show a need for Canada and Mexico to take a more collaborative approach and hopefully drag the US along.

While a protectionist stance in the US, Canada, and the EU aim to shield these in national markets, they do not address competitiveness abroad, as Chinese manufacturers expand their footprint globally. What hasn’t happened yet is these companies begin to have their national suppliers follow along.
